Album review of Cody Simpson: Preview to Paradise

Cody Simpson, at only age 15, has already release two prior EP’s as well as a mix tape. Now his third EP, Preview to Paradise, is a sample of what he has to offer this summer, with his debut album Paradise. Preview to Paradise is four songs off that debut album, and from those four I can guarantee you I will be purchasing that album opening day.

Starting off is the track Got Me Good. Got Me Good is one of Cody’s many ‘feel good’ songs, that just brings the thought of the beach right to you. Cody sings, what sounds like a serenade, to a crush he’s eyeing up. This tune screams Summer, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it played as the summer anthem for many.

Next up, Wish U Were Here. Wish U Were Here is another summer, beach-y song which makes you want to hop in your car, windows down, radio blasting this track. With a much pop-ier vibe that the previous, Wish U Were Here features a catchy chorus that is bound to get stuck in your head, in addition to a verse by rising female rapper, Becky G.

So Listen follows, which had been released as a single just weeks ago. So Listen boasts as a club hit, which includes a very electronic backing to accompany his vocals during the chorus. The song features a verse from the iconic rapper and RnB artist, T-Pain, which screams auto tune as with virtually all of T-Pain‘s work (which in my opinion sounds great).

Ending off the EP with another acoustic, poetic serenade; Gentleman sounds like something you’d hear off of a Jack Johnson album, but with an Australian beach life touch. This song has a down to earth vibe and is a great finish on a fantastic EP. EP

Overall, this EP is a great sample of what’s to come, and once taking a listen, you’ll be on the edge waiting until the summer release of Paradise.
