Seeing that there wasn’t a Southern California stop to the tour, I decided to take a little trip to the Cheyenne Saloon in Las Vegas on July 24 to see Burn Halo. The quintet has since released their second album, “Up From the Ashes” as of June 28, and is currently touring with Egypt Central and Red Line Chemistry in support of the album. The sweltering heat on the drive up was a mere discomfort with the anticipation of the fun to be had. I had to have a good dose of live rock n roll. . .

If you haven’t heard of them, Burn Halo is a gem amongst the sea of rock bands out there. Though on their second album, the guys are no stranger to the road. The band has shared the stage with Avenged Sevenfold, Buckcherry, and Papa Roach. among others. Burn Halo’s beginnings started as a solo project for James Hart (formerly of the now-defunct metalcore band, 18 Visions) with him collaborating with an array of talent which included Synyster Gates of Avenged Sevenfold on the self titled debut album‘s first single “Dirty Little Girl“, then it became a full-band effort going into the second album (Hart on vocals, Joey Roxx on lead guitar, Brandon Lynn on rhythm guitar/vocals, Aaron Boehler on bass/vocals, and Dillon Ray: drums/vocals). With the latest, “Up From the Ashes”, the band continues their brand of infectious rock metal. The new songs present a more aggressive and heavier direction, with Hart’s strong vocals, big testosterone-driven riffs and up tempo beats. Overall, the musical styling has a familiar warmth to them, though made their own with Hart’s honest lyrics.

It was nice to have gotten out of the summer heat, and into the cooler temps of Cheyenne Saloon. The place has a good laidback vibe to it with a nice stage. Merch was set up on one of the venue’s pool tables, which seemed fitting for the band (see their “Dirty Little Girl“ video). I walked in to catch the first two local bands, and then to see Red Line Chemistry rock it, setting the stage for Burn Halo. Apart from what Hart jokingly called a “peyote break” in the set when guitarist Roxx had to make an equipment run, the band kept the momentum going, shredding through the set. With the members mugging it up for the fans up front, and Hart’s intense and heartfelt delivery, the guys treated fans to an energetic rock n roll show. In a sense, Burn Halo lit up the dimly lit stage. The set started with “Save Me” which I found myself and others nearby singing along to. As expected, the set was sprinkled with old favorites and the new, including “Stranded“, the soaring “Threw It All Away”, fan favorite “Dirty Little Girl”, and the raucous first single off of the new album, “Tear It Down” would cap the set. As with previous times I’ve seen the band, the guys rocked on the stage and off. Ever the gracious musicians, the guys can be seen signing, taking pictures, and talking to fans after the set. It was a good night. . . There is still a handful of dates left of the tour. Meantime, I will be looking forward to more dates to come. Go have a listen, and check them out on their pages.
