107.9 The Alternative presents… The Any Man in America Tour featuring Blue October at the House of Blues, Las Vegas, Nevada on September 9, 2011
Blue October is currently touring in support of their new album, Any Man in America, their sixth studio album, since forming the band in 1995. Friday night brought them to the House of Blues, Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Hotel/Casino. I arrived just before their set and the house was packed. It’s no secret that this album was written while frontman, Justin Furstenfeld, began going through a difficult divorce and dealing with the challenges of child custody and visitation and the subject matter, while heavy emotionally, translates well into the music. Personally I enjoy seeing rock bands that utilize some instruments outside the typical drums, bass and guitar rock lineup so seeing Ryan Delahoussaye playing violin and mandolin during the show was very cool. They played a 24 song set of songs off their newest album and fan favorites from their past albums including their hits Hate Me and Into the Ocean. From the size of the crowd it’s obvious Blue October’s often somber subject matter connects on many levels with a lot of people.
Blue October is: Justin Furstenfeld - vocals, guitar; Ryan Delahoussaye - violin, mandolin; Matt Noveskey - bass; Jeremy Furstenfeld - drums; Julian Mandrake - guitars
