AEG Live Presents… The Dirty Heads with Gym Class Heroes at Jannus Live in St. Petersburg, FL.

Living in Florida, we always get snubbed for shows and concerts sometimes. But what we hardly ever get, is when tours begin here. But this Wednesday, Floridians were treated to a tour just starting off. The Dirty Heads with Gym Class Heroes.

The even took place at one of the coolest venues around, Jannus Live, the outdoor venue in beautiful downtown St. Pete. The night was perfect, weather was cool and the crowd was packed when Gym Class Heroes took the stage. The band each came out one by one, and before you knew you it, you could hear the screams of tons of girls as Travie McCoy took the stage and mic. Shockingly, their set seemed rather short as they blew by song after song. While watching, I was caught off guard a bit as the band played “Billionaire”, which was a song from Travie’s solo album, not a Gym Class song. They played mostly all their “radio friendly” hit, “Peace Sign/Index Down”, “Cookie Jar” and “Taxi Driver”. Even though they talked about the new album, they only played “Stereo Hearts” which closed out there set. The highlight of their set was Travie’s interaction with the crowd and keeping them a part of the show, as much as the band was.

The Dirty Heads were closing out the show, as headliners. I’ve never heard of their music before, but had known who they are. As they came out, they started the show off with some free styling. Soon after they broke into their set. The whole set was tight and really well done. The fans were into it and totally excited. Their set includes “Taint”, “We Will Rise” and “I Got No Time”. As a band that is compared to the likes of Sublime and 311, they really hold their own in a genre that is very limited. As the night came to a close, they ended their set with their hit single “Lay Me Down”.

Overall the show was really awesome! Weather was great, music was awesome, crowd intense and it was great to be a part of it.
