It’s still hard to believe that iconic ‘King Of Pop’ star Michael Jackson has passed only a few years ago. Michael Jackson falls under the same category as artists such as The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, and The Rolling Stones. These artists and bands will never be forgotten.

Michael Jackson has toured the world many times, and you can consider the Immortal World Tour his last. A 2 year tour, planned to hit cities throughout the world before starting a stationary show in Las Vegas stopped in Winnipeg on Wednesday night to play 2 shows back to back on October 26th, and 27th. As the stage filled up one side of the arena, and stretched with a catwalk to a mini-stage in the middle of the floor seating, there was not a bad seat in this sold-out arena.

Michael’s music started playing right at 8:00PM, and the show itself started 15 minutes later. With 7 gigantic screens in the back, many of them which moved, including the main screen folding up from the floor of the stage. A few dozen miniature screens also lined the stage including the catwalk and mini stage out into the crowd.

With a total of 24 scenes, the sets consisted of graveyards, dive bars & strip clubs, to Neverland. Featuring a live band, with musicians covering everything from the guitars to the trumpets, as well as live back up vocals to Michaels pre-recorded voice.

The Immortal tour was not your classic Cirque Du Soleil show. It was a combination of a musical, a play, a tribute concert, and of course, a circus. With mimes and mind-blowing acrobatics, they combined an array of props including, the doors to Neverland, a hot air balloon with a life sized child version of Michael inside, life size elephants, as well as dancing oversized white hand gloves. Starting the show Cirque included pyrotechnics coming out of the main screen, and to end it off, about a 30 second display of fireworks within the arena.

I don’t know if it was because of MJ’s music consitently playing in the background, but this production seemed to have less dull moments than the past Cirque Do Soleil’s that I have seen. Overall, if you are a fan of Jackson, of even if you’re not, the Immortal World Tour is one to see.
