The Rapture with special guest Poolside at The Social in Orlando, FL.

Orlando on a Thursday can be just as fun as Orlando on a Friday or Saturday night. And for this Thursday, The Rapture would be in town. The event was moved from the new venue of The Beacham over to The Social, a much smaller venue right next door. This got me kind of worried thinking the show didn’t sell enough tickets or some other reason. Well, I was wrong.

Poolside was the first band to play. They consisted of two members, one on bass, and the other on keyboards with some DJ equipment. They weren’t my cup of tea, but they weren’t that bad either. They had a, seemed fitting, poolside chilling, just relaxing type music you can totally listen to on a nice sunny day outside. Very enjoyable, do them check them out!

The Rapture was next and I’ll be honest. I’ve listened to one of their albums, “Echoes” and that’s it since I first saw them on MTV’s Artist Spotlight back in like, 2003/2004. Never really cared to check anything else out. Boy was I wrong. Their set was really, really awesome and even though they played 3 songs from “Echoes”, I still enjoyed much of the other songs they played. Of course everyone wanted to hear “House of Jealous Lovers” for the insane amount of cow bell in the song. During “Olio”, Luke, the singer, took his mic and walked around the small club. To the bar he walked across, then back down around the crowd. As I followed him, I noticed 3 people behind me were getting their picture taken by someone. Within a few seconds, he comes Luke walking right into frame for the picture. One of girls loudly yelled “DID HE JUST F*CKING PHOTO BOMB US?!”. He sure did. All while still singing along.

Once I left the show, I thought “I got to get home and get these other albums!”. This was probably one of the most fun shows I’ve been to. Their sound is so unique and fun. If anything, please go check out their music. It’s amazing.
