The House of Blues Las Vegas presents… NOFX New Years Heave with Lagwagon, Old Man Markley and Holding Onto Sound, December 31, 2011, Las Vegas

NOFX is touring in support of their recently released The Longest EP and brought a hell of a show to Las Vegas for New Years Eve, or as they advertised it “New Years Heave”. The crowd was in great spirits and packed the House of Blues from the stage to the back wall.

The night started off with Holding Onto Sound, a local Las Vegas band I had never seen before and I was more than impressed. The crowd was loving them.

Next up the bluegrass punks of Old Man Markley took the stage and blew me away. Did you know people mosh to bluegrass? Well they do when it’s Old Man Markley onstage! It was also a first for me, photographing a band with an autoharp, and actual washtub bass and a guy rocking a washboard to go with it. They are a band I will be seeing again, I had a blast during their set.

Lagwagon took the stage and Joey Cape commanded it. Full on punk rock celebration ensued and people were crowd surfing, losing shirts and shoes, and flat out going insane. Insane in a good way though, the vibe throughout the night was nothing but positive. Lagwagon is coming back to Las Vegas, March 4, 2012 at the Las Vegas Country Saloon and I’m sure it’s going to be a show to remember. Their set included:

  1. After You My Friend
  2. Goin’ South
  3. Violins
  4. Making Friends
  5. Kids Don’t Like to Share

NOFX came on a few minutes before midnight and rang in the new year mostly in flapper girl drag. El Hefe didn’t participate in the drag show but he did have on a proper New Year’s Eve suit. Fat Mike, isn’t fat and he wears a dress pretty well, looking a little like Liza Minnelli on a good day. They gave the crowd all the favorites they came for and more playing 24 songs before the night was over and it was by far the most fun New Year’s celebration I have ever attended. Their set included:
