The Rankin Family live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the McPhillips Station Casino on January 17, 2012.
As the Canadian music family group were set to take the stage at 8:00 PM last night, an older crowd filed into the McPhillips Station Casino.
With no opening act, The Rankin Family, with exception to Raylene Rankin who promised she’s be back for the next time they come around, took the stage right at 8:00 as planned. Going straight into ‘Mo Run Geal Dileas’ (which translates into ‘My Faithful Fair One’) shows off each members vocals right off the bat.
Following they stopped with an introduction, and cracked jokes about the -40ºC weather outside but right after they went back into North Country, followed by Never Alone. With a round of applause after each song, it was evident everyone was enjoying themselves immensely. Next they played ‘Nothing Like an Ocean’ and ‘Movin’ On’, and it wasn’t long after until the majority of the band left for a break, leaving just Jimmy Rankin and his guitarist to play a few solo songs off of his solo album.
Not long later the entire band joined him once again, and a couple songs they went into, in my opinion their biggest hit, ‘Mull River Shuffle’. The crowd cheered and clapped throughout probably setting the peak of the night right then and there. With only a few songs left the family finished off with ‘Fare Thee Well’, and ‘Feel The Same’ before they left the stage.
The band received a standing ovation as expected, and I imagine the majority of the crowd will be back for round 2 once they return (hopefully with Raylene). The Rankin family will be continuing to head out to rest of western Canada and you can see where they stop at http://www.therankinfamily.com/tour.php.
