Schecter Guitars presents FILTER at The Grove at Anaheim, January 21, 2012

Schecter Guitar Research is known for hosting the best parties during the NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) show each year and this year I was fortunate to attend to photograph Filter and enjoy the party.

The crowd was full of musicians and music industry professionals ready to blow off a little steam after days of constant networking at the NAMM show and when Filter took the stage the energy exploded. Filter is one of my favorite bands to see live. Their recorded music is great on it’s own but Filter is a band that comes across live even better than recorded. Too many bands these days are the exact opposite of that situation and I really appreciate a band that has authentic talent. They opened the night with Welcome to the Fold, Drug Boy and The Take. They played Jurassitol, then one of my favorites Trip Like I Do. Richard Patrick always heads out into the crowd and gets into the thick of it and the crowd on this night responded to him in a big way. I love the way he comes across as not just performing for the crowd, he’s participating in the show with the crowd. He feeds off the energy and once again I watched Richard Patrick connect with his audience and bring them into the experience instead of just witnessing a concert. Next up was Take a Picture, Dose, Under and then my favorite off their latest album, The Trouble with Angels, entitled No Love, a song I have a much love for.

Then the highlight of the night for me was Best Things, during which Richard Patrick performed most of the song while crowd surfing, followed by So I Quit and then a little War Pigs sung by bassist Phil Buckman. Then the song everyone was waiting for Nice Shot. As soon as everyone heard that familiar Nice Shot bassline they went wild and crowd surfing ensued. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again . . . Filter never disappoints.
