BE:CAUSE Industries presents… The New Cities with guests Take Me To The Pilot and local support Andrew Mitchell and Ferriswheels at the Ellice Theatre in Winnipeg, MB on February 17, 2012.
Starting off the evening was Winnipeg local Andrew Mitchell. Mitchell played a quick set to start preparing the crowd for the night, and bringing them up the stage, out of their seats. Usually playing a warm-intimate set, Friday night was no different. With his set consisting of his own original tracks, he threw in his spin on grammy-award winning Adele’s ‘Someone Like You’.
Up next, another local Winnipeg band, Ferriswheels. This band of 3 have started to make a pretty good name for themselves throughout the city, playing shows left and right. Currently recording their first LP, they continue to play many tracks off of it. With all their songs carrying a unique indie-rock vibe to it, they continue to play the type of music the city wants to hear.
Following Ferriswheels was tour headliner The New Cities. Hailing from Montreal, Quebec, The New Cities having been having a few of their hits get played non stop across the country on the airwaves. I first saw these guys late last year opening for Avril Lavigne, and thought they were the better performers out of the two. I was excited to see them again, this time with a more intimate setting.
This band is one energetic band. With the entire band jumping and dancing around the stage, they managed to keep up to their upbeat music. Playing such hits as ‘Heatwave’ and ‘Dead End Countdown’, The New Cities had the committed crowd singing along to each word.
Ending off the night was Take Me To The Pilot. Opening up for The New Cities throughout the entire tour, Take Me To The Pilot headlined this show, as the show was being played in their hometown, Winnipeg. On tour a few times in the past year, Take Me To The Pilot have been creating quite a name for themselves across the nation, and it is evident why. With their set consisting of pop-rock, TMTTP played an uplifting set which included their latest hit ‘Tonight’.
Overall, the night was a success, each band held their own and left the crowd feeling good about the night.
