GAC and Target Center presents… Lady Antebellum with guests Thompson Square and Darius Rucker
Kicking off the show was Thompson Square, who performed an exciting set to entertain all the country fans in the building. Next up was Darius Rucker of Hootie and the Blowfish fame. Darius has released 3 country albums since 2002 and has had 5 Billboard number one singles. Apparently there IS life after Hootie, which is nice to see someone move on from something that was so big. It definitely showed as everyone was belting out the lyrics to each song. While running through his country tunes made sure to play a few Hootie tunes. Ending off his set, Darius started playing Purple Rain. I thought to myself ‘Really Purple Rain?’. I think Prince would be proud, it was excellent.
After a great start to my first country show I was ready for the headliner. First we were entertained to people daning in the aisle’s and seats for a chance to sit inside the stage. Inside the stage were about 50-60 people. Not a bad seat, ha! Lights went down and Lady A came up on the stage from the inside of the inner circle. We Own The Night was first up and then was followed by Stars Tonight, Our Kind of Love, Dancin’ Away with my Heart, Wanted Your More, and Perfect Day. The band had a great stage that came all the way into half of the main floor. They all strutted up and down it all night long which was nice to see. Love I’ve Found You, Love Don’t Live Here, and Hello World were next on the set list.
Mid-set, the band made it’s way down the the end of the ramp they stopped to say hello to this little girl, Lexi. They brought her on stage. She has on a Lady A shirt, a cute skirt and adorable cowboy boots. She sings American Honey right along with them the whole song. Following was the entrance of Thompson Square and Darius Rucker again, who headed on out to do a cover of Midnight Rider from The Allman Brothers and Black Water from The Doobie Brothers. Oh yeah we all got to sing along also. Lady A then did I Run To You and Just a Kiss out at the end.
Nearing the end, I heard a familiar base line, I thought ‘Could it be?’ YES, Sweet Emotion from Aerosmith broke out, and they did a great version of it. Closing out main set list was Lookin’ For a Good Time.
Coming back on stage for an Encore was their most notable hit, Need You Now. Overall, I must say I was really impressed by the show, and I hope to see them again!
