Extreme Thing in Las Vegas, NV on March 31, 2012

The Used

Lions, and tigers, and bears, oh m-Well, not quite those things. Couldn’t help but see the irony of it… It was a beautiful day out at Desert Breeze Park in Las Vegas last week, with consistent winds that were expected to reach as high as 40 mph. Sunny with clear skies, the coolness of the wind was especially deceptive to those who were most susceptible to sunburn, as seen with the redness on faces and necks at the end of the day.

Thousands flocked out to see the smorgasbord that is Extreme Thing, with stages spread out across the vast park grounds, rows of vendors, and sport competitions which included amateur mixed martial arts, wrestling exhibitions from Adrenaline Unleashed, skateboarding, and a Pro BMX Dirt Challenge hosted by Ricardo Laguna. While going over the schedule of artists, I found that it would be quite difficult to try to cover all, and still catch a needed breather in between. Indeed, there was something for everyone. Thus would become a game for myself, of how much I could take in on this glorious outing.
XPOZLV.com stage hosted local bands, Frequency/Scion stage hosted dubstep, I did come across a Modern Mayhem/Ekoh MC WAR stage which hosted hiphop and rap, in between scrambling to the Hard Rock cafe on the Strip stage (catching Transit, Abandon All Ships, Polar Bear Club, Sleeping With Sirens), Verizon Main Stage (catching This Romantic Tragedy, Zebrahead, Unwritten Law, Less Than Jake, Underoath, The Used), and the Vitaminwater stage (catching Ministry of Love, Black Dahlia Murder, Anti-Flag). With some exceptions, organizers have been able to start the sets on time for much of the day. The timing at Verizon Main Stage was thrown off some with the cancellation of Mickey Avalon’s performance, after the artist was forced to cancel upon the arrest of his DJ. Twiztid who were also slated to perform, cancelled beforehand. The aforementioned caused a shift in the main stage lineup for a later time. While the majority of the crowd came for the music in comparison to the other attractions, Underoath and The Used easily captured the most as they closed off a very eventful day.
