89.3 The Current and First Avenue presents… Social Distortion.

Opening tonight are The Toadies and The Toadies come from Fort Worth, Texas with Todd Lewis on guitars and vocals, Mark Reznicek on drums, Doni Blair on bass, and Clark Vogeler on lead guitar. Being known for their straight forward rock ‘n’ roll. They kept it right on this evening. They included their hit Possum Kingdom half way through the set and even covered The Reverend Horton Heat’s 400 Bucks right before the end of their set. Clark on lead guitar was very impressive, along with the entire band.

Arriving to the stage right on time for tonight’s SOLD OUT show, Social D get right to it. They have such an attitude and rock ‘n’ roll, you can just feel it by just looking at them. For over 3 decades Social Distortion has been kicking our asses and tonight was no different.

Social Distortion is Mike Ness on vocals and guitars, as if you didn’t know, Johnny Wickersham on guitars, bassist Brent Harding, and on drums David Hildago Jr. Mike Ness is such a classic rock/punk icon you can’t help but love to watch him work. And oh boy, did he work the stage tonight. Coming over to the sides of the stage to get close to the fans on each side, he was showing them he loves to perform. The latest album by them is Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes which came out in 2011, and Machine Gun Blues was the first single off the album. Taking tracks off that album in addition to throwing in some rare classics we have not heard in a while, the set list provided a great variety of tunes.

The band kept it so tight tonight as Brent and David play like they have been together since the beginning. Johnny has been backing Mike on guitars since 2000 and rocks it. Their presence on stage is amazing. The crowd was also in high spirits tonight with some classic punkers getting a small mosh pit going. Of course, some liked it, some did not… but hey, you are attending a Social Distortion show, what can you expect.

They are one of the classics that have not burned out. You have to check them out.
