Live Nation and The Target Center presents… The Black Keys with guests Arctic Monkeys.

Opening up this evening was the Arctic Monkeys. They were formed in 2002 out of Sheffield England, and are in support of their latest release Suck It and See. With a more punk sound then the Black Keys, they still made for a good fit for the bill. Alex Turner on lead guitars and vocals seems to have formed into a crowd favorite with the girls. He had them screaming each time he came to the front of the stage. The entire band had a ton of energy and showed they can handle a stage in an arena.

The Black Keys have worked there way up in the 10 years they have been around… from the 7th Street Entry which holds 250 people to The Target Center which tonight’s crowd was 11,000 plus. The stage was still similar to the last shows they have played. They had their signature big Hollywood style light along with the giant disco ball for Everlasting Light.

The Black Keys have gotten a bigger sound on the last two releases they have put out. To help put out the bigger sound this evening, they have added 2 more musicians to the band. This fit really well with the newer songs and also worked to fill in on the older ones as well. They also did a smaller set in the middle where just Dan and Patrick played together. Just like the ol’ days.; Well they were not that long ago. They have also made it known that they are one of the latest in what you would call “jam bands”, and they sure had some great jams going on during the songs.

The great thing about this band is the music, and it is just the music. As much as I like big huge bombastic arena shows, it is refreshing to go one where everyone there is there just for the music. Dancing in the aisles, drinking, smoking that funky stuff and just there to have a great time. Even though it was a Tuesday night you could have sworn it was Saturday.
