The Hootennany at the Oak Canyon Ranch in Silverado Canyon, California on July 7, 2012.

On July 7th, revelers of punk, rock, folk, and rockabilly flocked to Oak Canyon Ranch in Silverado Canyon, CA for the the family-friendly festival called The Hootenanny. Past headliners have included Social Distortion, Chuck Berry, Dropkick Murphys, and Chris Isaak, among others. This year’s lineup was headlined by punk rock band Rancid, coming off of their 20th anniversary. The rest of the day’s lineup (included The Reverend Horton Heat, Bouncing Souls, Supersuckers, 3 Bad Jacks, etc.,) were not shabby at all. In short, it all made for a day well spent.

The festival also features a slew of merchandise, food/beverages vendors. Bandanas, red lips, and slick-shiny hair was in abundance on a sweltering day. Hootenanny is not called a punk and rockabilly fest for nothing. . . While out and about, patrons beat the heat by taking refuge under the trees and misting hoses that were strung overhead. Overall, the festival has a welcoming atmosphere. Laidback just right, and a rocking good time.
