Friday, August 17, 2012, was a day to celebrate and revel in the accomplishments for Las Vegas based Ministry of Love. Recently signed to Negative Progression Records, this energetic and talented band released their self titled EP to great reviews. It is great to see a Las Vegas based band enjoying this hard earned recognition. I have followed this band for years and I know they have been hardcore paying their dues. I mean living out of a van, playing for gas and food money for weeks on end, sleeping in parking lots, kind of earned it. This band made their breaks, nobody handed them an easy opportunity, they wanted it, they have sacrificed , and they have earned this night.

The night was also a testament to the strength of singer, Meg Vitale, who just four days prior announced she has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer and spent Thursday in California at UCLA preparing for upcoming surgery and radiation treatments. Any thoughts of whether or not the show would happen were quickly put to rest as Meg herself announced via Facebook that the show must go on. She arrived back in Las Vegas, and sent out this announcement to her fans: ”Waiting to soundcheck at House of Blues, so excited for our CD release show tonight!! I have but one request.. No sad faces about my…ugh I hate even saying it…cancer. No crying! No pity hugs! No “it’s gonna be ok”s! I just want to see all of your smiling faces rocking out with us!! Love you all!”

Meg’s message got through to her fans, friends and family and everyone showed up ready to celebrate. The band took the stage with big smiles, full of energy. To call them “high energy” is an understatement. Drummer, Matticus Finch, is a whirlwind of beats and flying hair. Guitarists, Ryan McCulloch and Devo Fresh, are pure punk rock attitude with their bright hair, Ryan’s backflips, both of them ripping the guitar riffs and taking charge of the stage . Bassist, Patrick “Pulsar” Trout, lays down the groove and has so much fun on stage that it’s infectious. Vocalist, Meg Vitale, walked out on stage, as bad ass and beautiful as she is talented. They rocked it and for a while everyone at the House of Blues was free of thoughts of anything other than the music and the fun.

For now, it’s time for Meg to heal. Until then, we can enjoy Ministry of Love’s newly released, self titled EP and watch their new video for A Promise for Forever.
