Live Nation presents Big Time Rush with special guests Cody Simpson, Tyler Medeiros, and Victoria Duffield and suprise guests Flo Rida and Danny Fernandes on the Big Time Summer Tour at the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre in Toronto, Canada on September 8, 2012.
With two teen Canadian pop stars briefly starting out the night, the young crowd filled with Mom’s and their children filled the amphitheatre with screams from the start. Beginning with Victoria Duffield, who played a mere 15 minute set, made sure to include her hits ‘Shut Up and Dance’, and ‘Feel’ as well as ‘Break My Heart’. Victoria is constantly flooding the airwaves with her track, and with her young age and hard work, it’s evident that it’s not stopping anytime soon.
Up next was another Canadian pop icon, Tyler Medeiros. As Tyler’s usually slotted at a 20 minute set time on this tour, this stop, in his home town Toronto, was extended. With it being the most notable set of the night it was evident why. Tyler, backed with 4 dancers, knows how to work the stage as he includes flips, 5 foot high jumps, and spins throughout his entire set as he sings his hits such as ‘Say I Love You’ and ‘#QTEES’. Tyler was recently signed to record label IMG by international superstar Flo Rida. With Toronto being Tyler’s home stop, Flo Rida thought it would be suitable him the man himself to fly in and join Tyler. Flo flew in 15 minutes before he went on (and left not long after), and joined Tyler as a surprise to everyone by coming on stage and singing a few of his hits, with Tyler at his side, to the crowd. Flo made sure to include current hits such as ‘Whistle’ and Wild One’s. Not long after Flo Rida did 3 songs, Tyler thanked him and was joined by another pop singer, this time being his cousin, Danny Fernandes. Danny features in Tyler’s song ‘Girlfriend’ and tries to join Tyler on stage to sing it live whenever he can. Overall, once Tyler’s set was done, all were in awe.
Following Tyler Medeiros was Australian pop-sensation, Cody Simpson. At only 15 years old, Cody has achieved more than most can wish for at such a young age. Probably being the one responsible for the majority of the crowd that show, he did not disappoint. Starting out with his current hit single ‘Wish U Were Here’, the fans were screaming from the start. Cody moved to LA a couple years back to pursue his career, however he still very much embraces his Australian heritage, and you can not just hear it, but feel it in every song of his. Cody’s set continued for over a half hour and included songs such as ‘Got Me Good, and ‘All Day’. He also sang live his notable cover of Calvin Harris’ ‘Feel So Close’ and he ended off with the song that put him on the map, ‘Iyiyi’. It is evident Toronto loves Cody, and will always be welcome back with open arms.
Finally ending the night of this all star lineup, was Nickelodeon produced TV show band, Big Time Rush. The stage erupts with fireworks and lights everywhere as Big Time Rush enter for their hour and a half set. Starting with ‘Elevate’ and ‘Time Of Our Life’, this pop star band knew how to get the crowd on their feet. Their stage consisted of 4 different levels of platforms, multiple amounts of pyro, and a trampoline, it was set to awe the crowd. Their set included their own song ‘Boyfriend’ which was accompanied part way through by them singing homage to Justin Bieber’s boyfriend as they sang a verse out of that. Big Time Rush also gave respect to the Beatles as they covered ‘I Want To Hold You Hand’ as well as ‘Help!’. BTR ended with ‘Music Sounds Better With U’ and then ‘Windows Down’ before coming on with a 2 song encore of ‘Til I Forget About You’ and their self titled track ‘Big Time Rush’.
With a lineup like this, and including special guests such as Flo Rida, there was no way the crowd could be disappointed. This 3 month tour is on it’s way out, and Toronto was ecstatic that they got to be one of the final (number 50 to be exact) stops on such a tour.
