Live Nation presents… Owl City with guests Action Item at the Phoenix Concert Theatre on Saturday, September 15, 2012 in Toronto, Canada.

Having played Toronto just months before, Owl City is back and this time at the Phoenix Concert Theatre. At such a venue as the Phoenix, each member of the sold-out crowd had an intimate seat to watch the energetic Owl City.

Having never seen Owl City before I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Owl City is usually just a one man band - Adam Young. Adam creates all the music on his own, so I wasn’t sure if he’d be performing the same way (and wondered how he would do it). However it was interesting to see Adam brought along a full band, and barely played any instruments at all. Accompanied with a drummer, a man and a woman on the keys, and a guitarist (who also had a synth in front of him), Adam solely sang the majority of the show.

Hitting the stage at 9:00 PM, Owl City had a long set ready for the crowd. They are currently on tour supporting their latest album ‘The Midsummer Station’ which released not even a month before the show. Playing tracks mainly from that album, including of course ‘Shooting Star’, Adam and his band touched on his previous albums as well. Half way through the set the band stopped to pay homage to Toronto, Canada, Donuts, and of course Tim Hortons. He informed us he loved playing here and that’s why he keeps coming back. He then led into a live instrumental track which apparently was set to take us on a journey. Adam grabbed grabbed a guitar for the song and the crowd swayed back and forth for the 5 minute duration.

The night was filled with Adam’s smooth voice, and uplifting synths which evidently pleased the young crowd at the Phoenix Theatre. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the night, with the highlight being ‘Fireflies’ of course, as it uplifted every member of the crowd into belting out the lyrics.

Constantly on tour, make sure to try to catch Owl City when they touch down next in your city for a positive experience of an evening!

Opening for Owl City was Action Item who played an entertaining half hour set which ended by covering British boy band The Wanted’s internationally renowned track ‘Glad You Came’.
