Live Nation presents the Face The Music Tour with Marianas Trench with guests Down With Webster, and Crystaline in Oshawa, Ontario on Wednesday October 17, 2012.
Playing their biggest show of their career, Crystaline started out for this one-off opening slot in Oshawa. Currently breaking into the scene, Crystaline played as fans entered into the stadium setting the tone straight for what’s to come.
Next up, were the very energetic Down With Webster. The group of six mixes rapping with rock to a level no other band has managed to do. Opening up with Time To Win, the crowd danced, while throwing their arms up into the apparent signature ‘W’ salute, that none other then Down With Webster have made recognizable. They continued their set with hits ‘She’s Dope’, ‘Rich Girls’, and my personal favourite ‘Jessica’ before having drummer “Marty” play one hell of a solo for the crowd. Incorporating pop beats into his solo, Marty included viral track ‘Gangam Stlye’ by legendary K-Pop artist Psy, as well as pieces of Skrillex’s dubstep creation called ‘Bangarang’.
Following the drum solo, Down With Webster started to wind down their set with ‘Royalty’ ‘Back Of My Hand’, and ‘Your Man’. Having the crowd already amped, and satisfied with the night, they left the stage for the intermission before Mariana’s Trench hit the stage.
An intense video intro appears on screen and next thing you know, Josh Ramsay’s voice starts to flood the arena, steam flows off the front of the stage, and he rises from the back. Rising from below the stage, Josh hits stage level and then goes higher, flying out 25 feet above the stage out over the crowd. Singing their latest album title track, ‘Ever After’, Ramsay starts to float back down to stage, where he grabs his guitar as the song becomes more upbeat. The stage has two arms on either side that go into the crowd, and the entire set the band used them to their advantage. Constantly playing with the crowd, Josh Ramsay and Matt Webb had the girls screaming from song one.
As steam, a foot high off the stage, still acts as a waterfall off the front, the band continues to track ‘All By Myself’ followed by one of their very first hits and possibly a song that helped defined who they are today, ‘Shake Tramp’. Chart topping hit ‘Fall Out’ followed with ‘Stutter’ and “Desperate Measures’. This is a band who you know has lots’ of hits, but you really don’t realize how many until you hear them back to back. The whole hour and a half set I nearly recognized them all (not to mention knew 90% of the lyrics too).
Throughout the set, lead singer Josh Ramsay made his talents evident playing guitar, drums, piano, and harmonica. Videos came on throughout and the band of course got hailed by the sold out arena to come back for an encore, and sure enough they did. Ending off the night at a lower temp, it was obvious the crowd was ecstatic on the performance, and Josh left the stage as he entered it… in the air.
