House of Blues presents Seether with Sick Puppies, Kyng, and Young Guns.
Opening up the second night on the Triple Threat Tour, Chicago was in for a treat. Chicago was loaded with many concerts going on in the city like Jason Maraz, Rush and others, but at the sold out House of Blues, they were all here to see Seether.
Kyng came out and played a 30 minute set, that at times, seemed a little out of place with the crowd, but they were able to manage to bring in with their amazing playing and freeform solos.
Sick Puppies were on next and after some time off from the road, the rust showed from the road crew. Singer, Shimon Moore’s guitar at one point stopped playing, as well as Emma Anzai on Bass had to work on minor adjustments on the side of the stage. Even with all those adjustments, they proved to be a force on stage. With a new album coming out next year, they are allowing some fans to come back after the show to hear them preform a new song. Moore’s vocals were spot on, to go along with his great stage presence. Then, add to the mix Anzai’s sick skills on the bass and model-looking beauty, your eyes are drawn to her. Mark Goodwin on drums is the backbone of Sick Puppies and during all the chaos, was still pounding out the backbeat.
With a lineup alone of Sick Puppies and Seether, you know you are in for a great night.
With the curtain closed, it made me wonder what Seether was hiding. With each tour, they seem to bring something new as far as stage props. MTR got a chance to sit down with Bass player, Dale Stewart to talk about the new tour, their Rise Above Fest and touring new countries.
As the curtain opened, it revealed what looked like time machines, along with green lighting. As Dale walked out, he wore a gas mask from WWI, which had a great effect for the music, along with drummer, John Humphrey, they played the opening notes to one of my favorite Seether Songs, No Jesus Christ. Singer, Shaun Morgan walked out and sang the opening notes, along with the piercing riff before they launched into a brutal assault; amazing song to open with. Not letting up one bit, they played Gasoline, and the gut-wrenching, visceral, honest song about drug addiction, Needles. Seether in the past has been compared to Nirvana but over the years they developed their own style and have pushed the boundaries of rock music with subject matter and emotionally charged lyrics.
With a 14-song set list, they played all the fan favorites like Fine Again, Driven Under, Broken and new songs of the album, Holding Onto Strings Better Left to Fray, No Resolution, Tonight and Country Song. The night ended with Fake it and Remedy, leaving the fans wanting more and glad. Of all the events they could have went to, tonight they picked the right one.
