Austins Fuel Room presents Nonpoint and special guest, Throw the Fight, Arcane Framework
If Nonpoint was a sports team I would compare them to the New York Yankees, through their history they lose team members but still keep coming back strong. Music Tour Reviews got a chance to talk with lead singer Elias Soriano about touring, new band members, new album.
The Fuel Room has been a stop for many Nonpoint tours and tonight was a makeup day for an earlier date this year. With a packed house on this warm Saturday night, local band, Arcane Framework came on, to get the crowd moving. Playing all original music and fronted by singer/bass player, Katy Przybytek, they played a solid 30 minute set.
Up next was Throw the Fight; this was their last show with Nonpoint on this tour and they ended with a bang. This was my first time seeing these guys play and when they finished, I was impressed with what a good set they put on. They played a few songs from their new album, What Doesn’t Kill Us. They got the crowd going when they played a cover of I Just Died In Your Arms and their single, Not So Hollywood, playing a good mix of hard rock with some intense screams, they set the table for a band like Nonpoint to then come out and knock it out the park.
With a quick change-over, it was time for Nonpoint to come on.
Featuring 3 new band members from the Chicago area - Dave Lizzio and Rasheed Thomas on Guitars, Adam Woloszyn on bass, to go along with the insane drum beats of Robb Rivera and singer, Elias Soriano. If you are looking for a band that tours and tours hard it will be Nonpoint; just look at their tour dates and you will see them play 5 to 6 days out of week, which is insane for bands nowadays. With a new record label behind them and the new lineup, it’s time for Nonpoint to rise up again and it is much deserved.
Playing the infectious single, Lights Camera Action, off the new self-titled album Nonpoint they got the crowd going right away. They played Endure, off their debut major label release Statement and it reminds you how kick ass this band was and still to this day making killer music.
Elias is one of the best front men in rock, with his charismatic stage presence, powerful vocal range to go along with lyrics that reflect emotions of every fan out there.
They continued with I Said It, Broken Bones, That Day, and The Truth which has just as much meaning behind it from when it was released.
Robb is one of the most intense drummers in rock, and with his drum set being on the side he will often get up after the song to get his band mates pumped up or screaming at the crowd to get their hands up as he did when they played Hands Off.
With each song the Fuel Room crowd became more intense as they formed a pit that went on through the night as they played What a Day, Victim and only a brief reprieve when they played a slowed down jam of, In the air tonight. The duel guitar attack was showcased the strongest when they played one of the best songs Nonpoint has produced – Ashes, with the flamenco inspired rifts Lizzio plays throughout and then Rasheed taking a turn ripping it up.
Lizzio is all over the place and jumping several times as he hits right on the mark and showing what a huge improvement in his playing since they first played in Rockford over the summer. Rasheed now gives Nonpoint a rhythm player so the songs are now more fleshed out and sounding fuller. Adam opened up with a sick bass lick as they went into Left For you, which sums up a lot of what was going on with Nonpoint with their past members.
The night ended with the classic, Bullet with a Name On It, which left the crowd wanting more but tonight there was no encore as they thanked the crowd for coming out. They stayed for over an hour signing autographs and talking with the fans afterwards. You can catch them out on the road with Hinder this month and next year when they go back out on tour and for sure some of the biggest festivals.
