Daughtry & Three Doors Down with special guest P.O.D.

Akoo Theatre can sit 4,400 people with an intimate concert setting. This lent itself well to the performers. With there being no barricade, fans with seats up front where able to reach out to bands as they connected with each other.

All three bands have a solid fan base that could have filled much bigger venues but this was all about bringing the big stage to smaller venues on this tour. Opening the set was P.O.D., who has been on fire this year from touring on Uproar festival and dropping a new killer album, Murdered Love in July. It was interesting to see how a band that is known to throw down hard was going to have to contain so much energy in a Theater setting. Opening with Lost in Forever, off the new album, allowed the fans looking for a rock show to get up and bang their heads. This was followed by Youth of the Nation and Murdered Love, a song that showed P.O.D. can play anywhere and get people up, as singer Sonny Sandoval, flipped his cap back and cracked the microphone cord around like a whip. They slowed it down just a bit with Higher and Beautiful before ending with Alive - that had the crowd singing along. If you need a reason to get their early, you now have one with seeing P.O.D.

On this tour, Daughtry and 3DD have been taking turns each night to close out the show; tonight 3DD was the closer. Both bands were going to play full sets to the enjoyment of all the fans going to see them. Daughtry hands down has one of the best lighting of any rock concert I have seen this year, to go along with 16 hit songs played in their set. Opening the set with Break the Spell, off the album with the same name, along with Feels Like Tonight, Outta My Head and Crawling Back to You, Daughtry’s music has a way of bringing you in as you feel every lyric as if you were living through them.

Andy Waldeck has joined Daughtry after original bassist, Josh Paul left the band, and while JP was just as much a show on stage as Daughtry, with his effortless energy, Waldeck is quickly filling those shoes. During a cover of Phil Collins In The Air Tonight, Brad Arnold, singer for 3DD came on to sing along. They ended the set with September before coming out to a standing ovation that lasted several minutes.

They did come back out to play Home, a song Daughtry has said now has taken on a new meaning with it being used by the military families whose loved ones are returning home from duty. The night ended for Daughtry with his big hit, It’s Not Over. Daughtry mentioned he would love to keep playing for hours and thanked everyone for coming out.

For those who have missed the tour on this run can check both bands out early next year when they do it all again at the end of January.
