Three Doors Down at Akoo Theatre in Chicago, IL
As Three Doors Down end their tour for 2012 with Daughtry & P.O.D., they made a stop in Chicago. As co-headliners, they have been taking turns with Daughtry to close out the show with each city. Tonight was 3DD turn to end the night, with a packed house that was treated to a blazing set by P.O.D. and Daughtry.
3DD have just released their first Greatest Hits album that includes 3 new songs that were included in tonight’s set-list. Tonight’s show had a very laid back feel to it and singer, Brad Arnold was very thankful to the fans and throughout the night kept referring to the crowd as friends, making it a more intimate feel to the show. They opened the show with Time of My Life, from their last album of the same name.
Chet Roberts has stepped in for Matt Roberts on this tour and was in perfect sync with Chris Henderson; this might be from the fact that Chet used to be Chris’s guitar tech. Todd Harrell is all over the place with an in-your-face approach to playing and getting the crowd worked up, combined with Greg Upchurch on drums to provide the perfect backbeat and bounce to 3DD music. Singer, Arnold’s approach to singing is never over the top, along with strong lyrical content and his non-rock star looks makes it easy to connect with him on stage.
They played 17 songs that included It’s Not My Time, the hard hitting, Duck and Run, The Road I’m On and Away From the Sun. The crowd (Friends) sang along to Let Me Go and threw their Metal horns up for Loser, which seems timeless 12 years later.
During the Daughtry set, Arnold came out to sing. This was returned when Daughtry came on to sing Landing in London; was a great treat for fans to have both acts share the stage. Here Without You turned into another crowd sing-along that sent Goosebumps running through the crowd. Another treat was hearing a cover of Megadeth Symphony of Destruction; who would ever guess this one. The night ended with The Better Life before coming out to an Encore of their biggest hits, Kryptonite and When I’m Gone.
For me, this was my last concert of the year and could not have asked for a better way to end the year.
