If you think All Time Low is your stereotypical pop punk band that is ripping off the likes of Blink-182 or Green Day, you may want to think again. After playing a nearly sold out show at The Sound Academy last night, All Time Low have proven that they are more than just a one trick pony, and that they’re here to stay for good.

The band is touring in support of their latest studio album, Don’t Panic, and has brought Michigan band Fireworks, and Florida natives Yellowcard along with them. Both opening bands played exceptional sets, from new songs to fan favourites, constantly encouraging the audiences to get up and dance. Fireworks, a new band on the pop-punk scene, with a range of heavy rock to dance anthems, performed a set that garnished a new fan base with the Canadian audiences.

Yellowcard played shortly after Fireworks, with an overwhelming amount of crowd interaction, especially for an opening band. The band was taking pictures of the audience and getting them to start the songs before they did. Yellowcard announced that The Sound Academy was the biggest audience that were expected to play on this tour, making fans well aware that this concert was going to be the greatest for them. The Florida band also hinted that Yellowcard fans should be expecting a very big announcement soon in light of the 10 year anniversary of their first studio album.

All Time Low hit the stage at 9:35 p.m. opening with the song Somewhere in Neverland, off Don’t Panic. The song instantly caused the venue to erupt with singing, moshing and overall excitement, with no shortage of slowing down.

The band created a healthy balance of songs from their new record and old favourites that increased the excitement in the room as more songs played.

During their song Coffee Shop Soundtrack, the crowd was not shy to start a circle pit, although a bit alarming, it was nothing new for a regular concert go-er. The audience managed to keep it going throughout the rest of the song with no hesitation.

Throughout the show, singer Alex Gaskarth cracked jokes with guitarist Jack Barakat, while bassist and drummer, Zack Merrick and Rian Dawson, chimed in on the fun. This in turn got the fans laughing, and were reminded of the child-like attitude that the band possesses. The Baltimore natives expressed their appreciation for performing in Canada, and the admiration that they have received over the years, considering that All Time Low are not nearly as popular in Canada as they are in comparison to the US and UK.

The set ended with one of their earlier hits, Dear Maria, Count Me In, which caused the whole crowd to sing the majority of the song.

The overall sound in the venue made it feel as if the audiences were listening to their records and not a live concert. It was clear and crisp with minimal static and ranged well from the front to the back of house.

The energy that the band provided proved that they do not slack when it comes to their performances. They brought their A game, showing the audiences that they are dedicated to their craft. The band performed with passion and drive, and if there was any doubt that the audiences wouldn’t see that, it was surely wiped away clear when the band played.

All Time Low will continue their tour with Yellowcard and Fireworks until January 26th where the tour will end in Vancouver. From there, the band will spend February and March in the UK, Australia, and Asia before they return to the US to do a headlining tour with Pierce the Veil and You Me At Six.
