Xcel Energy Center and Roy Wilkins Auditorium presents… fun. with special guest Andrew McMahon in St. Paul, MN.

Fun. kicked off their world tour on Wednesday night at the infamous Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul, MN. With a wide variety of people arriving at the show it shows how diverse of an audience fun. really has.

Opening up the show was Andrew McMahon. He has a style of great indie pop piano songs, and you may recognize him from being the front of pop punk bands’ ‘Something Corporate’ as well as ‘Jack’s Mannequin’.
He held center stage while the back up band surrounded him. Andrew has a groove that reminds me of independent 80′s pop. Along with great vocals and really catchy melodies; Jack and his band really warmed up the excited crowd.

Fun. hit the stage with “Out On The Town” and “One Foot” infront of three see-through screens while video was broadcasted on them. The neat thing was you could see the band right through them. Up next they played ‘All the Pretty Girls’ which typically had them all screaming. Nate Ruess had every girls eyes on him all night. One girl in the front was crying every time he made it to her side of the stage.

Nate sounded spot on, and he joked for a bit about how his friends told him when he was growing up he was no singer. He sure showed them.

“Why Am I the One”, “At Least I’m Not As Sad (As I used to Be)” showed off a bit of the touring band and what they had. Emily Moore was on guitars, background vocals and several other instruments, Will Noon took the drums, and Nate Harold on bass. The other original members Jack Antonof was on guitars and Andrew Dost was mostly on keyboards tonight are excellent musicians as well as performers.

They have a very positive message with their songs; Live, be young, have fun and take care of your self. This all really came through in such songs as “It Get Better”, “Carry On” and “We Are Young”. One of the most upbeat songs of the night was “What The F*%k”. “What The F*%k” is a great songs with a chorus that was kids would understand.

With the crowd screaming for more at the end the band came out and finished with “Some Nights” and “Stars” off their multi platinum seller.

The band explained they had been in town for about a week rehearsing at Paisley Park, known as the home of Prince. It was evident that all the hard work was worth it. The stage had a great lighting system with 2 video screens which had made the stage change before your eyes. On top were smaller video screens in the lights.
