15th Annual Punk Rock Bowling and Music Festival, Downtown Las Vegas, May 25-27, 2013

Punk Rock Bowling 2013 by Karen Mandall

For the 15th year, Punk Rock Bowling and Music Festival has taken over downtown Las Vegas, but this year they outdid themselves. The three day festival was sold out well in advance, all the club shows that take place late night at venues around downtown were sold out as well. The festival has grown from a punk rock bowling tournament that also hosted some shows to a world class music festival that also has a punk rock bowling tournament. The festival is planned out to have multiple activities going on at the same time, so if you miss out out tickets for one or all of the days of the main festival, you can still fill your days and nights with punk rock revelry. Free pool party shows daily at the hotels, and free punk rock shows at venues around town that aren’t hosting the official club shows as well. This festival has something for every punk rock fan regardless of they amount of money in their wallet.

This year’s headlining acts were Devo, Bad Religion and the much anticipated reunion of Black Flag members performing as FLAG. All three nights the festival grounds were filled with punk rockers, moshing, crowd surfing, having a blast. The most anticipated performance of the event was Flag, featuring legendary alumni of Black Flag, Keith Morris, Chuck Dukowski, Bill Stevenson and Dez Cadena, with Stephen Egerton (The Descendents and All) joining them for a performance none of us who witnessed will ever forget.
