Tyler Bryant and the Shakedown played Seattle’s Tractor Tavern June 23, 2013

I had the pleasure of seeing Tyler Bryant open for Jeff Beck in 2011. Jeff is amazing guitar player by anyone’s standards and all I can say is that he chose to take Tyler out on the road with him. This speaks volumes of what an expert thinks. I am no expert, only a huge fan! He has also shared the stage with Eric Clapton and Steven Tyler of Aerosmith. Tyler Bryant is a great showman and musician at only 22yrs old. There has been much said and written about this kid and every bit of it positive and exciting! ‘Guitar prodigy’ is used over and over to describe Tyler, and it’s not one bit over used. Tyler says, “I’ve never considered myself a “prodigy” or anything else of that matter really. I just love rocking out.”

If you weren’t at the Tractor Tavern in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood on Sunday night then all I can say is ‘why not?’ It was a late Sunday night and I can only guess at whatever your reasons were…. The next time he’s in town you might want to reconsider your plans. That is if you enjoy great music and up and coming rock royalty. Seeing them perform live is a grinning ear-to-ear pleasure! Unforgettable!

Tyler is a throwback to a seventies era and it’s nothing less than innocence, bliss and talent. Tyler Bryant and his band the Shakedown performed what was an amazing intimate show that I know will be talked about and reminisced about for quite some time. Playing power chord rock, melodic hooks and a roundness of delta-inspired blues.

Their first full-length release, Wild Child, was recorded on analog tape, it is a raw testament to the talent that is Tyler Bryant and the Shakedown. When interviewed on the subject of the analog recording method, Tyler states “We tried a few different approaches when making “Wild Child” and just decided that we wanted the record to sound like you were listening to a real band playing their instruments in a room together. Raw and honest. It’s easy these days to use technology to make yourself sound better than you are, but we wanted to make a record that sounded only as good as we are. The majority of our favorite records were recorded live to analog tape, so it just made sense to do it that way. I’m really proud of the way it turned out and I can’t wait to start working on the next one! There’s no, “that wasn’t quite good, can you fix it?”…You either nailed it or you don’t. It’s a lot like life. Sometimes you nail it, sometimes you make mistakes. We’re a band full of humans and we wanted our record to sound like that.

These boys are “true” musicians; they are raw and real in a great old-fashioned way. I love that! And I know you will too! Don’t miss them out on the road. There is no hiding the talent in this group. Pure, honest, raw, a little funky (in a good way), and delightfully soulful music spoken from the heart.

These guys were amazing! I mentioned to Tyler after the show, that if they were around when I was growing up, they’d already be huge. They will eventually, so don’t miss them when they come to town. I couldn’t believe how much fun I had. I’m still smiling. To be able to be so close to the stage is a treat. The band even hangs out with the fans afterward and they are all such down-to-earth good guys, you can’t help but wish them the best. If you see Tyler Bryant and the Shakedown once, you will be a fan for life. I know I am.
