The D Hotel and Casino and Fremont Street Experience presents Stone Temple Pilots with Chester Bennington, September 27, 2013

The new chronicle that is Stone Temple Pilots made a blazing entry onto the stage at the weekend celebration of the anniversary of the D Hotel, and front forward was new vocalist Chester Bennington (Linkin Park) to lead STP into their next chapter. The original band members and brothers Robert and Dean Deleo fired former vocalist Scott Weiland earlier this year, recruited Bennington as replacement and continued forward with the STP brand (along with drummer Eric Kretz), and has headed out on tour featuring the new vocalist. At the Vegas show the group forged through STP standards including “Big Bang Baby”, “Vasoline”, “Dead and Bloated” and Bennington made a bold stance, he fit well with the look of the band and held his own singing through the classic STP faves. Mid set STP treated the crowd to the newest singles (written with Bennington) “Black Heart” and the summer’s release “Out of Time” both still with the musical sound stamp of the original STP, but edgier, fresher, and with vocal power and stage presence lacking in the last go rounds with former singer Weiland. This may not be the same STP, but it is a new direction for a solid songwriting team with an accomplished new frontman to lead the way. The set continued with a run of “Interstate Love Song”, “Sex Type Thing”, “Wicked Garden” to the crowd’s roar of approval, with nods for the new line up and new music.

Stone Temple Pilots featuring Chester Bennington released a new EP “High Rise” that just came out this week, and projected sales look promising. The EP has just 5 songs (“Out of Time”, “Blackheart”, “Same on the Inside”, “Cry Cry”, and “Tomorrow”) and the material shows what is here to come in the STP future. Bennington is signed on as permanent replacement for Weiland, but will still balance his efforts between STP and his groundbreaking Linkin Park.
