Shinedown’s Zach Myers with Zach Mack | “Weird and Wonderful” Tour

Zach Myers from Shinedown and best friend, Zach Mack of Parts Unknown, stopped at the Penny Road Pub in Barrington, IL for an acoustic performance.

After 18 months of touring for Shinedown, they have decided to take a break and will get back to writing for a new album in January 2014. For many fans, this year-long break leaves them looking for other ways to get their Shinedown fix. For Zach Myers, guitarist for Shinedown, these breaks allow him to tour with some friends and play music they loved growing up or wrote together. These shows are not huge venue fillers but rather, intimate settings, allowing fans to connect as they shout out songs to play or obscure references for Zach to play along.

Having done this for the last couple years, this was his 2nd stop at PRB with Zach Mack. Chris Allen, who always tours with them, had to miss this tour with a baby on the way.

After a great set by Shallow Side, known for their live plugged-in Rock shows, they stripped it down for a powerful performance, including a cover Justin Timberlake Mirrors. Looking forward to seeing this band progress next year.

Zach’s x 2 came up and opened with Around the Bend. For those who have never seen Zach play solo, you might expect a Shinedown-like show, but would come away with a new perspective. Zach approached this in a very VH1 storytelling vibe as he talked about how Shinedown writes all their songs acoustically first before plugging them in.

They played covers of Van Morrison, Eagles, Garth Brooks, and a great version of Phil Collins, In The Air Tonight, along with songs off an album he wrote with Mack & Allen called Shuffle. Zach did please the crowd with a few Shinedown songs, including The Crow & the Butterfly, killer version of Unity and old fashioned way of singing (coming to the front of the stage with no microphone) Shed Some Light. Zach talked about suffering from tonsillitis but did not want to cancel the tour as this is something he does not like to do.

They ended the show with a cover of the Eagles Desperado. After the show he went directly to the merch booth and signed autographs and talked to the fans until well past 1am.

There are a few more shows left on the Weird and Wonderful tour so make sure you take the time to go check it out.
