The 5th anniversary of Welcome to Rockville was nothing short of eventful. Between two evacuations due to severe thunderstorms, and an EF-1 tornado touch-down, any lesser event would have been shut down completely, but this metal show just couldn’t be stopped.
Danny Wimmer Presents nailed it with another insane lineup of bands including Slipknot, Korn, Halestorm, Slayer, Marilyn Manson, Slash ft. Myles Kennedy, In This Moment and many many more. It is not surprising that this years Rockville was sold out and even more impressive was the fact that the festival had expanded the grounds from last year to accommodate 10,000 more attendees, a 25% increase from last year.
Some of the musical highlights included Korn playing their self titled debut album in its entirety, Slipknots amazing performance with their signature spinning drum sets, In This Moments’ impressive costume and set changes, and Halestorm continuing their performance with a massive set right after the second weather evacuation of the day, living up to their tempestuous name. Alongside the epic lineup, A new attraction was presented this year, Tequila World, which boasted a fantastic array of exotic Tequilas, gourmet tacos and Metalachi the one and only metal mariachi band. With the ever growing popularity of this festival and expanding attractions, Im intrigued to see how the city of Jacksonville and Danny Wimmer Presents prepares for an even bigger Welcome to Rockville Festival next year, weather be damned!
